Each piece in Serpen Sonatas includes both slow, quiet sections with no obvious underlying rhythm as well as highly rhythmic and extremely precise faster passages. There’s no key and no key signature, with the structure of the music emerging from two six-note hexacords. The instruments are sometimes pushed to their limits in different ways, plus there is a perception of distance and proximity – where long notes grow from silence, pass us by and return to another silence and faster notes seem nearer.

The pieces of Serpen Sonatas tend to start quietly with a slightly distant feel, so it’s best not to turn the volume level too high, or later in the pieces the music may become over loud.

All tracks mastered by Pietro Giunta, On The Road Studios, Bologna, Italy.
